WICHITA, KAN. – John Diener became Morningside’s 35th All-American, placing eighth in the 149-pound bracket of the 2023 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Men’s Wrestling National Championship. The Mustangs qualified a program-high 11 wrestlers for the event, entering wrestlers in nine of the 10 brackets, with two in the 133- and 285-pound weight classes.

KANSAS CITY, MO. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the qualifying field for the 2023 NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championship last week, revealing preliminary matchups for the 11 Mustangs that qualified, either through conference allocations or at large.

OTTAWA, KAN. – The much anticipated rematch between Morningside and Ottawa finally came around today, and to Morningside’s disappointment, Ottawa came out on top, 28-16. Before the Mustangs and Braves locked in competition, though, the Mustangs first made quick work of the Bethany College Swedes.

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Men's wrestling went 3-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Duals II, starting the day by running the table against Hastings in a school record tying 60-0 victory. The Mustangs followed with a 41-7 victory over Midland, before concluding the GPAC dual season with an 18-16 nail biter against Doane, which named Morningside the 2022-23 conference champions.

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside men’s wrestling continued to have success this weekend, crossing paths with the Briar Cliff Chargers, who were receiving votes in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics coaches’ poll. Ready for a close dual, as Morningside-Briar Cliff competitions normally are, the Mustangs flattened the Chargers 42-4.

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside men’s wrestling hosted Dakota Wesleyan today in its final home dual tonight, defeating the Tigers 29-11 in the Hindman-Hobbs Center. The Mustangs, celebrating Senior Night, won six consecutive matches to open the dual, picking up a seventh before the night was over.

GLENDALE, ARIZ. – The Mustangs headed south to end 2022’s matches in Arizona, as Arizona Christian University rolled out the (welcome) mat. Morningside swept its dual opponents today, defeating ACU 30-12 and no. 17 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University of Arizona 39-10.

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside dominated its second-straight Great Plains Athletic Conference opponent, setting Jamestown aside 43-10 in the season’s second dual and team’s home opener.
