Mustangs set aside the Jimmies in GPAC wrestling

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside dominated its second-straight Great Plains Athletic Conference opponent, setting Jamestown aside 43-10 in the season's second dual and team's home opener. 

The Mustangs got off to a good start, as Evan Shell received a forfeit at 125 pounds.

Taylor Vasquez followed at 133 pounds, recording a pin in 4:35 to give Morningside a 12-0 advantage.

At the 141-pound weight class, Nicholas Walters recorded a major decision, 14-6, to give Morningside a 16-0 victory.

John Diener found himself at a disadvantage early in the first period of the 157 pound match. The senior didn't panic, turning the tables and getting his hand raised after the third period, claiming a major decision. 

Zander Ernst received a forfeit at 165, giving Morningside a 26-4 advantage as the 174-pound match took the mat. 

At 174, Jackson Chapin recorded a seven minute tech fall, mashing his opponent into the mat, 18-3. Chapin's five-point victory gave the Mustangs a 31-4 advantage.

Samuel Moore wrestled at 184, pinning his opponent in 3:40 to lead 37-4. 

Hunter DeJong concluded the day, wrestling at the 285-pound weight class, pinning his opponent in 4:53.

The no. 13 Mustangs are back in action on Saturday, December 17, as they prepare to wrestle Embry Riddle (Ariz.), who was ranked no. 17 in the most recent coaches' poll, and Arizona Christian University.
