SIOUX CITY, Iowa – In the NAIA Men’s Basketball First and Second Round presented by Ballogy Friday evening, Morningside jumped out to an early lead and ran away with a 93-78 win over Lourdes to advance to the second round Saturday afternoon.
KANSAS CITY, MO. – One week ago, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced that Morningside University would be the site of one of 16 host sites for the 2024 NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship First and Second Rounds, presented by Ballogy, bringing four of the nation’s top 64 teams to the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center.
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Ely Doble and Joey Skoff headlined Morningside’s all-conference selections as five Mustangs landed on the Great Plains Athletic Conference first and second team and honorable mention lists.
HASTINGS, NEB. – A 41-28 first-half advantage proved too much for Morningside to overcome in the well-attended Great Plains Athletic Conference men’s basketball championship game, played in the Hastings Broncos’ Lynn Farrell Arena. The Mustangs fought to minimize the damage, closing an almost 20-point gap in the second half, but were unable to gain the upper hand as they fell 77-61.
ORANGE CITY, IOWA – It was a familiar sight that welcomed Morningside’s men’s basketball team as it pulled up to the Northwestern College Bultman Center. Unlike 10 days ago when the teams last met, it was Morningside that came out on top this time, picking up a 93-83 victory over the tournament’s no. 1 seed and a trip to Hastings for the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament championship.
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside faced a formidable foe in the quarterfinals of this year’s Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament, as the no. 4 Mustangs collided with the no. 5 Jamestown Jimmies for the third time this year. Jamestown may have pulled off the upset twice this season already, but it was Morningside that came away with the win when it counted, downing the Jimmies 89-72 to move on to the GPAC semifinals.
