Morningside places six on first team all-conference list, coach of the year, freshman of the year

Morningside cleans up in GPAC men's wrestling all-conference honors

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The accolades keep rolling in for Morningside's men's wrestling program, as the Great Plains Athletic Conference announced its all-conference teams today. 10 Mustangs were named to the first team, second team, and honorable mention lists, while Zander Ernst and head coach Jake Stevenson took the Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year honors.

Morningside had six athletes placed on the first team all-conference list, Taylor Vasquez, John Diener, Noah Styskal, Alex Vandyke, Hayden Wempen, and Hunter DeJong, taking six of the 12 spots on the first team roster. 

Evan Shell, Zander Ernst, and Jakob Jerabek all received second-team honors, and Nicholas Walters was given the honorable mention nod.

All 10 wrestlers will make the trip to next week's National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Men's Wrestling National Championships, held at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kan. March 3 and 4.
