Mside continues win streak

WICHITA, KS. – Sophomore pitcher Lisa Bolton (SO/American Canyon, CA) (American Canyon, Calif.) reeled off her third straight start with a victory Wednesday, March 10.

Bolton's game two gem against Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference program Friends University helped head coach Jessica Jones-Sitzmann's Morningside College squad, having climbed two spots to No. 18 on the recent National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' coaches poll, sweep past the host Falcons 18-5 and 4-2. The two triumphs marked a noteworthy milestone, as Mside reached the 20-win mark for the 31st time in the last 32 seasons, with the only blemish in that run being the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.

Bolton limited the home side to three hits, walked only one, and struck out six. It was the eighth time in 12 appearances she K'ed three-or-more opposition batters.

Her outing was more than enough for what has been one of the nation's top offenses. The trio of junior catcher Mykel Gray (JR/Ames, IA) (Ames, Iowa), junior infielder Morgan Nixon (JR/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.), and senior infielder Lexie Stolen (SR/Sioux City, IA) each registered two hits, with one of Stolen's going for two bases and driving in a run. Nixon, running her streak of games with an RBI to six, joined Stolen and sophomore infielders Rylee Olson (SO/Hardwick, Minn.) (Hardwick, Minn.) and Sydney Petersen (SO/Omaha, Neb.) (Omaha, Neb.) in pushing tallies across.

Game one was all Morningside spotlighted by a 10-run third-inning rally. Junior outfielder Ellie Cropley (JR/Sioux City, IA) (Sioux City, Iowa) and Stolen both homered, and Nixon and senior catcher Ashton Whited (SR/Elkhorn, NE) (Elkhorn, Neb.) bashed doubles among a 16-hit attack. Cropley (three), Nixon (five), Stolen (two), and sophomore outfielder Vanessa Bohulslavksy (David City, Neb.) (two) each had multiple-RBI efforts.

Morningside wraps up its 2021 spring break trip with two games at McPherson University's tournament Thursday, March 11. They take on Tabor College of Kansas at 11 a.m. and Presentation College of South Dakota at 1 p.m.
