Mustangs push No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan to the wire

MITCHELL, S.D. — Lily Vollertsen led the Morningside women's basketball team on Wednesday during a 72-66 loss to No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan with 15 points.

Vollertsen made seven out of 15 shots, including a 3-pointer, to lead the Mustangs (11-14, 9-10 GPAC) in scoring. She also collected nine rebounds, and two of those were on the offensive glass.

Ella Wragge and Alexis Spier both also scored 11 points. Spier also had four assists.

Morningside led by as many as five points during the fourth quarter, and it erased a 13-point second-quarter deficit. The Mustangs opened the final frame with a 3-pointer from Jordyn Carr, and that put them up by two. Vollertsen later made a layup, and closed out the mini run with five straight points from Jaeden Webb.
