YANKTON, S.D. – For the second time in as many contests, Morningside has headed to overtime in a Great Plains Athletic Conference women's basketball game. Unfortunately, for the second time in as many games, the Mustangs wound up on the short end of the contest, falling 93-92 as Mount Marty hit a buzzer beater to overcome a two-point Mustang lead.
Morningside outscored Mount Marty 26-16 in the third quarter to erase a nine point halftime deficit, but lost the fourth quarter 20-19.
Lily Vollertsen led the Mustangs in scoring in the contest, racking up 23 points. Chaise Pfanstiel followed with 20 points, leading Morningside's reserves. Both Mustangs tallied more points than any Lancer. Jaeden Webb was held to just one point, but led Morningside with eight assists.
Ella Wragge gathered 11 rebounds, with seven coming on the defensive end of the floor. Vollertsen followed with nine, including seven offensive boards.
Pfanstiel had four steals, while Vollertsen and Alexis Spier each had three, and Webb had two, keeping Mount Marty on its toes throughout the afternoon.
