SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Morningside women's basketball coach Jamie Sale celebrated his 600th win with the Mustangs on Saturday, guiding the team to a 75-57 victory over Kansas Wesleyan.
Sale is the fifth active NAIA head coach to win 600-plus games overall, and he arrived at Morningside in March 2001.
This win was a hard-earned one for the Mustangs.
Morningside jumped out to a 14-0 lead, highlighted by a Lily Vollertsen 3-pointer with 5 minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Mustangs led 20-10 through one quarter, but led by just three at halftime.
Alexis Spier sank the go-ahead free throw with 7:59 left, sparking a 20-2 run that carried through the rest of the game.
Vollertsen led the Mustangs with 27 points and 10 rebounds, as she made 8 of 12 shots. Ella Wragge scored 12 and Spier 10.
