Mustangs battle tough competition at Gulf Coast Invitational

GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Morningside University softball team fell in both contests on Saturday as part of the Gulf Coast Invitational. The Mustangs lost 4-1 to Texas A&M Texarkana, then 7-1 to Southeastern.

TAMU-Texarkana 4, Morningside 1

The Mustangs scored in the seventh inning, with a Morgan Secora RBI single that scored Ali Fletcher. Bralen Biddlecome had a double. Josie Hernandez had two hits, both singles.

Adeline Fliege allowed four earned runs on six hits. Biddlecome pitched a scoreless sixth inning.

Southeastern 7, Morningside 1

The Mustangs were limited to five hits in the loss, and Ellie Gengler had the lone extra-base hit with a double. Jenna Skradski put the ball in the play during the fourth inning, and Southeastern misplayed the ball, allowing Gengler to score.

Jalyn Noelle had two hits, and both of those hits were singles. The Mustangs also forced four walks, including two by Mackenzi Harrel.

Morgan Secora and Jordan Skradski pitched, and together, the two allowed six earned runs on 10 hits. Skradski struck out two.
