FREMONT, Neb. – Morningside made the trek south to Midland to face the No. 13 Warriors, fall 2-0 and 3-2 Monday night.
The Mustangs couldn't get anything going in game one of the doubleheader, falling 4-0. The Mustangs didn't get a base-runner in game one, but the pitching staff kept the Mustangs in it until the end.
Morgan Secora pitched five and one-thirds innings without allowing an earned run. The Warriors scored four unearned runs on Secora. Maggie Fisher earned the final two outs in the circle for Morningside.
The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in game two, looking for back-to-back shutout wins over the Mustangs, but Morningside was able to tie things up in the fifth. Mackenna Sidzyik reached on an error that allowed Ellie Gengler to score. Kennedy Wineland then hit into a fielder's choice that scored Jalyn Noelle and the game was tied.
Emma Barwick hit a triple in the top of the seventh to put the Mustangs one hit away from the lead, but the Mustangs were unable to bring her home. The Warriors drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh to take the win and sweep.
Paige Schuester had two hits in game two. Barwick added a base hit and Kennedy Wineland earned Morningside's lone RBI. Bralen Biddlecome pitched six-and-a-third innings, giving up three runs in the loss.
Morningside returns home for just its second and third home series of the season. Morningside hosts Mount Marty Friday and Briar Cliff Saturday.
