Mustangs get back in the win column Saturday in Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Morningside snapped an eight game losing streak and split their games Saturday in Columbia, Missouri.

In a high-scoring first game, the Mustangs fell 13-9 to Stephens. Morningside scored runs in each of the first five innings, but a seven run second and a four run fifth from Stephens was too much for the Mustangs to overcome.

Mackenzi Harrel drove in a run in the first and Emma Barwick singled home a run in the second. In the third inning, Harrel stole home and Barwick doubled home Kennedee Jones. Mackenna Sidzyik singled home a runner and Jones doubled home Sidzyik in the fourth. Jones scored on a Paige Schuster single in the fourth as well. Morningside added two in the fifth on a Kennedy Wineland triple and a Lainie Keller sacrifice fly to bring home Wineland.

Wineland totaled three hits, three runs scored, and an RBI. She was a home run shy of the cycle. Sidzyik, Schuster, and Barwick recorded two hits each and Barwick contributed two RBI. Jordan Skradski started the game in the circle. Maggie Fisher and Morgan Secora pitched in relief.

The Mustangs snapped their losing skid in game two, defeating Missouri Valley 7-1. Sidzyik gave the Mustangs the lead on a RBI-single in the first inning to make it 1-0. They broke the game open in the second inning, scoring five runs.

Jones scored on a wild pitch and Morgan Secora doubled to score a second run of the inning. Sidzyik cleared the bases later in the inning with a three-run double. Ellie Gengler singled in an insurance run in the fifth.

Secora pitched four innings, striking out two in the win. Fisher added two innings pitched and Bralen Biddlecome sealed the win with a clean inning. Schuster had three hits, including a triple, and two runs scored. Wineland, Sidzyik, and Jones tallied two hits. Sidzyik added four RBI.

The Mustangs conclude their weekend in Atchison, Kansas facing Benedictine Sunday. Games are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
