Softball stumbles in Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mustangs hit the road for another non-conference weekend south, dropping a pair of games in Columbia, Missouri Friday afternoon.

The Mustangs lost to Missouri Valley 10-3 and Columbia 3-0 to start the weekend. Missouri Valley struck for three in the first inning and didn't look back in the win. The Mustangs scored two in the third, walking in both runs. Mackenzi Harrel and Kennedee Jones both walked home runners to make it 3-2.

Missouri Valley opened up a 9-2 lead before Mackenna Sidzyik reached on an error that allowed Emma Barwick to score. Ellie Gengler and Josie Hernandez recorded base hits for the Mustangs in game one. Jenna Skradski took the start, pitching two innings and taking the loss in the circle. Maddie Fisher and Bralen Biddlecome pitched in relief. 

Columbia scored in the third and fifth innings to win game two 3-0. Kennedee Jones recorded a base hit for Morningside and Morgan Secora pitched a complete game in the loss, striking out four batters.

Morningside is back in action Saturday against Stephens and Missouri Valley from the Mizzou Softball Complex in Columbia, Missouri.
