Morningside finishes McPherson Tournament 4-0

McPHERSON, Kan. – Another day, another pair of wins for the Morningside softball team in McPherson, Kansas.

The Mustangs defeated Mayville State 7-2 and Bethany 6-0 to complete a 4-0 weekend in the tournament.

In the Mayville State game, Morningside scored early and often to pick up a win. Morgan Nixon brought in the first run of the game with a single in the bottom of the first. In the second, Vanessa Bohuslavsky bunted in Mackenna Sidzyik and Taylor Richter. Later in the inning, Ellie Cropley brought home Bohuslavsky.

Mayville scored a run in both the third and fourth innings, but in the bottom of the fourth, Cropley tripled and Gray grounded out to bring in Cropley.

Jordan Skradski and Bralen Biddlecome pitched three innings each, each giving up a run, but otherwise locked down Mayville State. Maggie Fisher pitched the final inning.

Cropley, Nixon, and Bohuslavsky tallied two hits each in the win.

Grace Buffington was a star in the circle in game two. She pitched seven shutout innings, striking out five and giving up two hits.

At the plate, Morningside didn't get on the board until the third inning, but when they scored, it was in bunches. Morgan Nixon reached on a fielder's choice in the third inning, allowing one run to score. During the next at-bat, Nixon was caught stealing second, but Emme Dietrich stole home.

In the top of the fifth, Mykel Ann Gray singled to score Cropley. The Mustangs tacked on three more in the seventh. Petersen tripled to score Cropley, then scored on a groundout by Nixon. Richter doubled later in the inning to score Ellie Gengler
