Morningside well-represented on 2022 All-GPAC awards

A group of five individuals on the first two squads highlighted Morningside University's presence on the 2022 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference softball honors, released Thursday, May 12.

Three of them garnered first-team accolades. Senior third baseman Morgan Nixon (Omaha, Neb.), senior shortstop Lexie Stolen (Sioux City, Iowa), and junior designated player Sydney Petersen (Omaha, Neb.) were recognized. Nixon and Stolen are three-time all-league designees, with Petersen picking up her first loop postseason award.

Second team honorees were senior outfielder Ellie Cropley (Sioux City, Iowa) and freshman pitcher Grace Buffington (Gretna, Neb.). Cropley joins Nixon and Stolen as three-time all-GPAC awardees.

Head coach Jessica Jones-Sitzmann's squad, finishing 32-15 to compile the program's 15th 30-or-more wins campaign with Jones-Sitzmann at the helm, put four individuals on the honorable mention list. Senior pitcher Katherine Wurtz (Omaha, Neb.), senior catcher Mykel Ann Gray (Ames, Iowa), senor infielder Bre Tjebben (Fort Dodge, Iowa), and junior outfielder Vanessa Bohuslavsky (David City, Neb.) were recognized.
