First section of 2022 Spring Break trip ends with split

GULF SHORES, ALA. – A pattern that worked for a .500 record Saturday, March 5, was the same one that National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' No. 20-ranked Morningside University used Sunday, March 6.

After being shut down to the tune of only one run on two hits by Baker University of Kansas in the opener, head coach Jessica Jones-Sitzmann's offense throttled William Woods University pitching with an 18-run, 16-hit barrage in game two. Sophomore first baseman Kennedee Jones (Ankeny, Iowa) doubled and homered as part of a five-RBI effort; senior designated player Bre Tjebben (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and junior outfielder Vanessa Bohuslavsky (David City, Neb.) each drove in three; and junior second baseman Sydney Petersen (Omaha, Neb.) and senior shortstop Lexie Stolen (Sioux City, Iowa) both compiled two RBI.

Freshman Grace Buffington (Gretna, Neb.) proved to be the benefactor in the circle. She took over the team pitching wins lead, garnering her fourth year with two strikeouts.

The Mustangs (7-4) had opportunities in game one. After plating an early score, they left six on base, including two in their first at-bat.

Morningside continues its 2022 Spring Break slate Thursday, March 10, with a doubleheader at Friends College of Kansas.
