Sunday Sweep - Mside rolls along against Bethel

NEWTON, KS. – Hitting the 100-run mark for the 2021 season, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' No. 20-ranked Morningside College continued its eye-popping season start Sunday, Feb. 28.

Head coach Jessica Jones-Sitzmann's Mustangs, jumping their record to 12-0, cruised past the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Bethel College Threshers 11-2 in five innings and 9-2 to conclude their weekend Sunflower State stay. Junior outfielder Ellie Cropley (JR/Sioux City, IA) (Sioux City, Iowa) (four hits, three runs scored, three doubles, a triple, and two RBI); junior infielder Morgan Nixon (JR/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.) (six hits, one run scored, one double, two RBI); sophomore infielder Sydney Peterson (Omaha, Neb.) (increasing her hit streak to seven games); senior infielder Lexie Stolen (SR/Sioux City, IA) (Sioux City, Iowa) (two hits, three runs scored, a home run, an RBI); and senior outfielder Carson Cameron (SR/Herman, NE) (Herman, Neb.) (five hits, a double, three RBI, two runs scored) were among a plethora of offensive heroes at Allen Wedel Field.

In the circle, senior Alex Nelson (SR/Sioux Falls, SD) (Sioux Falls, S.D.) threw a gem out of the bullpen in the opener. She went three innings and struck out five with just one earned run allowed. Sophomore Lisa Bolton (SO/American Canyon, CA) (American Canyon, Calif.) was just as spectacular in game two, going the distance with seven strikeouts.

Morningside takes a different southern trajectory for the Langston University of Oklahoma Red Dirt Classic for five contests March 5-6 at the USA Softball Hall of Fame fields in Oklahoma City.
