Offensive blitzkrieg winds up another unbeaten weekend

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Outdoor temperatures weren't the only thing on the rise Saturday, Feb. 20.

Head coach Jessica Jones-Sitzmann's No. 20-ranked National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Mustangs got out the bats and produced some white-hot numbers to conclude the second Presentation College Dome Classic. The Mustangs wore out opposing pitching to the tune of 22 runs, 24 hits, six doubles, and five home runs that led to a 9-1 victory over Valley City State University and a 13-0, five-inning win against Dakota State University.

Junior infielder Morgan Nixon (JR/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.) continued her power supply. A day removed from crushing a pair of home runs in a nightcap win over Mayville State University Feb., she came back and went four-for-seven with four runs scored, a double, three more round-trippers, and seven RBI.

She wasn't the only one whose offensive production was on point. Senior infielder Lexie Stolen (SR/Sioux City, IA) (Sioux City, Iowa) cranked out two more long balls as part of a four-for-five, five-RBI, four-runs-scored afternoon. Junior outfielder Ellie Cropley (JR/Sioux City, IA) (Sioux City, Iowa) extended her hit streak to eight straight, and sophomore outfielder Vanessa Bohuslavsky (SO/David City, NE) (David City, Neb.) went five-for-six with three runs scored, two doubles, and an RBI, among other team highlights.

Junior Katherine Wurtz (JR/Omaha, NE) (Omaha, Neb.) and sophomore Lisa Bolton (SO/American Canyon, CA) (American Canyon, Calif.) benefitted from the large amounts of crooked number innings. They each picked up victories in the circle. Meanwhile, senior Alex Nelson (SR/Sioux Falls, SD) (Sioux Falls, S.D.) continued to whittle down her already microscopic earned run average with a combined three innings of shutout work from the bullpen.

Morningside (8-0) resumes its 2021 slate Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27 and 28, traveling to McPherson University and Bethel College of Kansas for back-to-back doubleheaders.
