Mustangs eclipse program wins record after sidestepping Central

PELLA, IOWA – The Mustangs showed their depth today as Morningside Tennis Coach Alex Struck fielded a different lineup for today's non-conference match against Central College. Morningside, despite the lineup changes, blanked the Division III Dutch 7-0.

The Mustangs, setting a new program record for wins in a season, worked quickly as Marcos Menendez Hervella and Alexis Diaz won no. 2 doubles 6-0. Mikhil Raja and Rodrigo Iraheta clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win, and Mark Trenkle and Santiago Minetti won 6-3.

Mathys Arnold kept Morningside moving in singles play, winning in the no. 2 position 6-0, 6-0. Joao Pedro Pierry Izoldi Costa followed with a matching 6-0, 6-0 win at no. 4. Jesse Gerth, who played in the no. 3 spot, clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-0 win.

Raja padded Morningside's lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the no. 6 slot; Trenkle, playing in his usual position, won 6-0, 6-2; and Abhishek Mohapatra won at no. 5, 6-1, 6-2.

Morningside is back on the court tomorrow, playing Coe at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a match against Luther following at 2:30 in Cedar Rapids.
