Nolan pitches four-hit shutout over Warriors in GPAC split

FREMONT, Neb. — Cade Nolan picked up his fifth win for the Morningside University baseball team Tuesday during a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader.

In Game 1, Nolan pitched a four-hit shutout en route to a 4-0 Mustangs win over the Warriors, while the Warriors came back in the nightcap to win 3-2.

Nolan faced 26 hitters, and he walked four on top of his four hits. He struck out four. The junior pitcher from Menifee, California, threw 105 pitches, and 63 of them were strikes.

Nolan has gone 16 consecutive innings without allowing a run, dating back to the March 13 win over Briar Cliff. He has 18 strikeouts over his last three games.

Ryan Kiolbassa got the Mustangs (21-4-1, 8-2 GPAC) on the board in the third inning of Game 1 with an RBI double that scored Nathan Thomas. Thomas also scored on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, thanks to Michael Delzell.

The Mustangs added two insurance runs during the sixth inning. Thomas forced a bases-loaded walk that scored Sam Wilt, and Kiolbassa was hit by a pitch that scored courtesy runner Kaleb Bleil. Wilt forced three walks against Midland pitching.

Both of the Morningside runs in Game 2 came off sacrifice flies. Wilt scored Delzell with the first sac fly during the third inning, while Luke Blackmon did so in the fifth that scored Kiolbassa. Kade Yasui hit the lone extra-base hit with a double, while Delzell had two hits.

On the mound, Tiago Sanchez and Mason Hymer combined to allow three runs on three hits during the loss.
