Mustangs drop tight contest in GPAC Tournament opener

CRETE, NEB. – Morningside fell to the consolation bracket in a weather-shortened contest with Northwestern, dropping the opener of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament, 2-1.

Jayson Willers drove in the lone run for the Mustangs, doubling to left center after Brian Garcia had laced a double down the right field line. Aiden Bishop and Ryan Kiolbassa had also both collected hits and Luke Blackmon coaxed a walk in the contest.

Kai Purdy-Burton went the distance on the bump, taking the loss while surrendering two hits and one earned run. He struck out three in the outing.

The Mustangs will play the losing team of today's second game, which features Doane and Jamestown, in a nine-inning elimination contest that is scheduled for noon tomorrow.
