Receiving Votes Mustangs shine in soggy Wildcat Classic
WAYNE, Neb. – The skies cleared up in time, and the Mustangs, who were receiving votes in the first NAIA Coaches' Rating of the season this week, showed up to have two top 10 finishers, including Courtney Sporrer taking the individual title at the Wayne State Wildcat Classic Friday afternoon.
Courtney Sporrer ran 23:18.65 to take the individual title by 55 seconds. Taylor Sporrer placed ninth in a time of 25:01.25. The two top 10's helped the Mustangs place third as a team with 82 points.
Wayne State won their home race, followed by Dordt and Morningside. Northwestern, Mount Marty, and Peru State also ran.
Monica Olson placed 23rd for the Mustangs, running the course in 25:59.08. Paige Padavich (26:38.82), Sarah Perez (27:00.98), and Jillian Fierro (27:01.39) also placed inside the top 40 individuals.
The Mustangs will stay in the Sioux City metro for their next race, running in the Briar Cliff Invite at Adams Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, South Dakota Oct. 7.
