Morningside places fifth at GPAC championships

Morningside finishes fifth in women's cross country championship

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Freshman Courtney Sporrer led the Mustang women to a fifth place finish at the Great Plains Athletic Conference cross country meet in Jamestown, North Dakota Saturday morning.

Sporrer placed 11th individually by running the course in 19:20.72, earning her GPAC All-Conference honors. Senior Tenna Beel ran 20:13.13 for 22nd. Junior Monica Olson crossed the finish line 24th overall, third for Morningside, running 20:19.58. 

Sophomore Taylor Sporrer ran the course at 20:36.99 and freshman London Rogge 20:44.94 for 33rd and 38rd overall for the Mustangs. Senior Sarah Bosch placed 40th by running 20:47.4. Junior Michelle Sanchez finished in 66th overall at 21:59. 

Non-scorers for the Mustangs were freshman Ella Stapek (22:02.07), senior Rachel Kenny (22:34.65), and sophomore Paige Padavich (23:09.84).

Morningside tallied 126 points to place fifth as a team. Dordt is the women's team champion, scoring 33 total points. Dordt's Jessica Kampman won the individual title by running 18:10.81.
