Mustangs seeded sixth in GPAC preseason poll

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Morningside University women's wrestling team was voted sixth Wednesday in the Great Plains Athletic Conference preseason poll.

It's the first year as an official conference sport, but it's the second for Morningside.

The Mustangs were given 18 points in the poll, which was voted by a panel of head coaches around the NAIA, representing each conference.

Morningside also saw two wrestlers individually ranked in the preseason league rankings.

Natalie Duran is seeded fourth at 110 pounds. At 207 pounds, Melissa De La Torre is seeded second.

De La Torre – a South Sioux City High School graduate – went 6-8 last season at 191 pounds. She was the 2023 235-pound Nebraska state high school champion.

Last season, the Mustangs defeated Augsburg and Buena Vista in its inaugural season.
