De La Torre's season concludes at National Championship

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – A historic season came to an end this afternoon as Melissa De La Torre, Morningside's lone, and first, qualifier for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women's Wrestling Championship lost in the second round of the consolation bracket.

De La Torre received a bye in the Round of 32 on the championship side of the bracket, advancing to a Round of 16 match against fourth seeded Maquoia Bernabe from Cumberlands. Bernabe, who was rated no. 9 in the country in the latest rankings, sent De La Torre to the consolation bracket with a 10-0 victory by technical superiority.

In the consolation Round of 16, De La Torre had an equally challenging matchup, facing no. 10 Andjela Prijovic from Grand View. De La Torre lost the bout in 1:25, losing via fall.
