Two Mustangs place in Warrior Open

FREMONT, Neb. – In the final competition before the KCAC Championships, two Mustangs placed at the Warrior Open Saturday in Fremont, Nebraska.

Melissa De La Torre took second place in her class to highlight the day for Morningside. De La Torre won by fall (3:54) in the first round and by decision (7-0) to make the championship match. 

The other placewinner was Adilene Delgadillo, who took fourth in her class. After a bye, Delgadillo made the quarterfinals by way of a fall in 1:37. She fell in the quarterfinals to move to the consolation bracket, where she would win three straight matches by injury forfeit, fall in 48 seconds and fall in 1:52. Delgadillo lost in the third place match, but came out of the day with four wins.

Madeline Black lost her first match of the day in the second round of the championship. Black proceeded to make the consolation semifinals with four consecutive wins. The first came by forfeit, but was followed by a 10-0 tech fall, fall in 2:45 and fall in 1:15. 

Morningside gets an extra week to rest up before heading to Crete, Neb. for the KCAC Championships on Feb. 24.
