Morningside faces strong field at Missouri Valley Open

MARSHALL, Mo. – Morningside women's wrestling gained valuable experience Friday afternoon, taking on tough competition from across the country and from programs at all levels at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Missouri.

Alyssa Petersen earned a first round fall in 2:50 in the 109-pound bracket before falling in her next two matches. Petersen's fall win was the first win and win by fall of her Morningside career. 

Adilene Delgadillo and Melissa De La Torre avoided taking a fall in their matches Friday. De La Torre battled to a decision against Iowa's Samantha Calkins, who was a No. 1 ranked recruit in her weight class coming out of high school.

After a couple weeks off, the Mustangs return to action Dec. 2 at the Conner-Oppenheim Doane Invite in Crete, Nebraska.
