
Bernales reaches 1,000 digs in sweep over Dordt
SIOUX CITY – A very successful second set on Wednesday helped the Morningside University women's volleyball team sweep Dordt and reach a milestone at the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center.
The Mustangs won by set scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-16.
In the first set, Morningside held off a late four-set rally by Dordt and won the first set with a Claire Wilson kill, assisted by Aleksandra Dalach. The Mustangs' longest rally in the set was five. Adelyn Harris started off the rally with a kill, then two from Sydney Marlow, one from Payten Lode, and ended with a Lode service ace.
Morningside hit .478 during the second frame. It was 12-for-23 with just one error. Wilson clinched the frame with a kill.
The Mustangs' largest lead in the third set was eight, in two separate occasions. They also closed the match with three straight points. Nienke van Drunen and Wilson had kills during that stretch.
Marlow and Wilson both had 10 kills, which led the Mustangs. Lode recorded eight kills.
Dalach – who hit .429 – led the Mustangs with 35 assists.
Aureana Bernales had the most digs with 15, followed by Lode with nine. Bernales reached the 1,000-dig milestone during the win.
In blocks, van Drunen had 2.0 total.
