Despite strong third set, Mustangs fall at Dakota Wesleyan

MITCHELL, S.D. – A strong third set was the highlight for the Morningside women's volleyball team on Wednesday in a four-set loss to Dakota Wesleyan.

The Tigers topped the Mustangs (13-6, 1-3 GPAC) by set scores of 25-20, 25-22, 15-25 and 26-24.

In that third set, Morningside jumped out to a 5-0 lead. That rally included a Kyla Dyrstad service ace, a kill from Nienke van Drunen and one from Sydney Marlow.

Aureana Bernales closed out the set with an ace.

Emerson Smith led the Mustangs with 14 kills, while Claire Wilson ended up with nine. Marlow had seven.

Dyrstad had 22 of the 45 assists.

Bernales led Morningside with 18 digs, while Marlow had 16. Adelyn Harris recorded 6.0 total blocks in the loss.
