Mustangs sweep Leafs in weekend opening match

BELLEVUE, Neb. – Morningside started off its second weekend of the season on a solid note, sweeping Goshen 25-13, 25-13, and 25-16 at the GoSarpy.com Volleyball Classic.

The Mustangs (4-1) hit .341 during the match, and collected 41 team kills. Sydney Marlow led Morningside with 13 kills, as she hit .385. Claire Wilson and Emerson Smith each had seven, while Adelyn Harris collected six. Wilson also had 3.0 total blocks.

Aleksandra Dalach had a team-high 21 assists, while Kyla Dyrstad turned in 16 assists. Both ladies had four service aces.

Aureana Bernales had 13 digs, ahead of Jacey Miller's seven.

The Mustangs set the tone early. They led 7-0 in the first set, and had a 12-point lead twice. Dalach had three aces among the first seven points.

In set two, the Mustangs and Maple Leafs were tied 10-10, but the Mustangs went in a 15-3 run to clinch it and ended the set on eight straight points. Wilson led off the run with a kill, and Harris' kill clinched the set. Dyrstad had the assist on that play.

The match ended with back-to-back Marlow aces.
