Women's volleyball falls to No. 12 Jamestown in GPAC Quarterfinals

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Morningside went north to take on No. 12 Jamestown Saturday night in the GPAC Tournament Quarterfinals and the Jimmies earned a 25-23, 25-17, 25-21 win over the Mustangs.

The (RV) Mustangs went toe-to-toe with Jamestown in the first set, holding a 22-20 lead when the Jimmies called timeout. Jamestown scored five of the final six points in the set to steal the opener and take an advantage into set two.

"When we played free, we did a great job of being gritty," head coach Jessica Squier said. "This trip is always hard and I appreciate how the team has really tried to change our culture on road trips."

The Jimmies opened up both the second and third sets with leads and the Mustangs battled back within two points in both sets but couldn't steal a set back.

Sydney Marlow, who eclipsed 1,000 career digs Tuesday against Dordt and is now over 1,000 career kills and digs, totaled 13 kills and nine digs in the loss. Claire Wilson also totaled 13 kills. Aleksandra Dalach tallied 25 assists and 11 digs and Payton Shoquist picked up 14 digs.

"The team has done nothing but continue to enhance our culture on and off the court," Squier addded. "They will continue to make big strides forward and I'm excited for them."

Morningside now has to await the NAIA Tournament field announcement on Nov. 13 to see if they make the national field. Morningside finished the regular season at 17-16 with an 8-8 record in GPAC play. They were the six seed in the GPAC Tournament. Each of the last two seasons, seven GPAC schools have made the NAIA Tournament.
