Women's Volleyball picks up sweep at Briar Cliff

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Receiving Votes Morningside Mustangs made the trip across town to Briar Cliff and swept the Chargers 25-20, 25-13, 25-21 Saturday night.

The Mustangs hit .200 in the first set and .294 in the second set to cruise to a pair of set victories. The third set was more competitive, as the Mustangs hit .173 and Briar Cliff .121 in the back-and-forth third set.

We knew we were going into a tough environment with a team that always puts a target on our back," head coach Jessica Squier said. "We focused on ourselves and what we could control."

Sydney Marlow recorded a double-double Saturday night, tallying 11 kills and 10 digs. Payten Lode, who has been a consistent hitter with Marlow all season, added 13 kills and nine digs.

"Those two help set the tone for competitiveness and toughness within our team," Squier added.

Aleksandra Dalach tallied 32 assists and nine digs. Payton Shoquist, Morningside's career record holder for digs by a libero in the current scoring era, added 14 digs to her total Saturday.

Morningside is back in action for senior day and the regular season finale on Tuesday. Morningside plays host to Dordt and is currently seventh in the GPAC standings with a game to play. A win Tuesday would give Morningside its first .500 record in GPAC play since 2019.

"We need to work on our ball control," Squier said. "If we can perfect ball control and serve game, I believe that we give ourselves a good chance at getting the win."
