Morningside falls to no. 1 Concordia, 3-0

Scrappy Stangs unable to steal set from Concordia

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Less than 24 hours after toppling the no. 10 team in the nation, Morningside upped the difficulty as it faced no. 1 Concordia. The Mustangs fought hard against the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' top team, but was unable to steal a set, falling 25-19, 25-17, and 25-20.

Much like in last night's victory, Morningside showed its grit as it fought back when its back was against the wall, lacing together scoring runs after Concordia had surpassed the 20-point mile marker in each set.

Payton Shoquist led all players in the digs column, scooping up 15 for Morningside. Sydney Marlow also reached double digits in the digs column, with 10.

On the defensive front, Morningside had six total blocks, with Adelyn Harris leading the way with four block assists. Aleksandra Dalach had three, Nienke van Drunen and Claire Wilson each had two, and Marlow had one.

Payten Lode was the leading attacker with 11 kills in the three-set match, followed by Marlow with 10 and Wilson with nine. Wilson hit a team-high .318, followed by Lode at .250. Dalach recorded 37 of the team's 38 assists.

The Mustangs take to the road for the next three matches, playing at Mount Marty on Oct. 6, at College of Saint Mary on Oct. 7, and at Northwestern on Oct. 11, before returning to the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center on Saturday, Oct. 14.
