Upset bid falls short at Dakota Wesleyan

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Mustangs had another Great Plains Athletic Conference win on their wish list as they headed to Mitchell, S.D. to play Dakota Wesleyan University, who was receiving votes in the most recent National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics coaches' poll. Morningside stole the first set while on the Tigers' turf, but was unable to escape the Tiger pit with a win as it fell 3-1, with scores of 21-25, 25-17, 25-20, and 25-23.

Three Mustangs had double-digit kills on the night, as Claire Wilson, Sydney Marlow, and Payten Lode paced Morningside's offense with 15, 15, and 12, respectively. Aleksandra Dalach ran the offense, picking up 44 assists in the match.

Payton Shoquist led the way on defense, notching 22 digs, with Marlow and Lode in tow. Katherine Miller had four block assists, with Marlow and Wilson each collecting two block assists.

Morningside packs up for the weekend and heads back to Sioux City, with Northwestern's Red Raiders due to make an appearance in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center on Wednesday.
