Mustangs drop straight set-match to Hastings

HASTINGS, NEB. – The Mustangs were on the verge of taking a set at Hastings College this afternoon in women's volleyball action, forcing the match-concluding set to be played to 26 and eventually falling in straight sets, 25-15, 25-20, and 26-24.

Morningside's offense settled into a groove in the final set of the match, hitting .250 and recording 17 kills, up from .057 in the previous two sets.

Sydney Marlow led the Mustangs, as she has for much of the season, with 13 kills today. Claire Wilson followed with 10. Wilson's .208 hitting percentage was a high water mark for Morningside's usual attackers. Gaby Wilson recorded a .500 average to lead the team, recording one kill in two attempts across the three sets. Gillian DePauw was credited with all 31 of the team's assists in the match.

The defensive breakdown was more of the usual leaders, with Aureana Bernales leading the way with 14 digs. Tarah Jackson followed with eight digs, with Marlow right behind her with seven.

The Mustangs recorded four total blocks, with Nienke van Drunen leading the way with a solo block and two block assists. DePauw recorded two block assists, and Claire Wilson had the remaining solo block for the visitors.

Morningside is back on the court on Tuesday, traveling to Mount Marty University in Yankton, S.D. for a 6 p.m. JV contest with varsity following at 7:30.
