SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside's women's volleyball team kicked off homecoming weekend on the right note, defeating Mount Marty 3-1, with sets of 25-23, 25-17, 16-25, and 25-17.
The Mustangs' defense was on display in the four-set match, as the team went off for eight total blocks and 92 digs. Kylah Brewer recorded four blocks, Gillian DePauw had three, and Nienke Van Drunen and Claire Wilson had two each.
Aureana Bernales led the way in the trenches, with 33 digs. Sydney Marlow followed with 15, Payton Shoquist had 14, DePauw recorded 12, and Wilson reached double digits with 11.
On the attack, Morningside terminated 48 points, led by Wilson, with 17, and Marlow, with 15. DePauw was credited with 38 of the team's 41 assists in the match.
