Morningside falls to Concordia 3-0 in women's volleyball

Mustangs fall to no. 6 Concordia

SEWARD, NEB. – The Mustangs continue to gain experience playing against nationally ranked teams. Unfortunately for Morningside, those matchups come scattered throughout the regular season conference schedule.

This time out, the Mustangs faced the no. 6 ranked Concordia University Bulldogs. The Bulldogs made quick work of the Mustangs, picking up the win in straight sets, 25-17, 25-21, and 25-13.

Morningside's offense continues to grow, with different players working to take some of the pressure off of Sydney Marlow, who has anchored the Mustang attack all season. Marlow recorded 10 kills in Saturday's match, with Claire Wilson matching with 10 kills of her own. Marlow hit .222 in the match, with Wilson at .179. Nienke van Drunen had five kills out of the middle, hitting a very respectable .556.

The defense mustered one block, courtesy of the combined efforts of van Drunen and Wilson, pushing efforts to the back row, where Aureana Bernales recorded a match-high 15 digs. Gillian DePauw followed with nine, while Marlow had eight.

The Mustangs play Buena Vista University tomorrow, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m., making a quick turnaround to face the Beavers in Allee Gym.
