Mustangs fall in season opening matches

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. – Morningside Women's Volleyball opened its season on the road today, launching into a schedule that's designed to test the young team before beginning play in the ultra-competitive Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Mustangs dropped both matches on the opening day of the Keiser University Chick-fil-a Classic in straight sets, falling to Southeastern 25-21, 25-23, 25-23, and to Cumberland 25-20, 25-20, 25-16. Morningside's opening day saw two-match leaders in Sydney Marlow, with 20 kills, and Claire Wilson, with 17. Gillian DePauw totaled 46 assists on the day, while Bridget Smith tallied 33 digs. Nienke van Drunen recorded five blocks, followed by Marlow with 3. The Mustangs are back in action on Saturday, Aug. 20, playing Loyola of New Orleans and West Virginia Tech to conclude play for the weekend.
