Mustangs collect event title, turn in 10 all-conference performances at GPAC Championships
ORANGE CITY, IOWA – Seven Mustang women earned individual all-conference honors at this weekend's Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, however, it was the foursome of Courtney Sporrer, Emily Chicoine, Jolee Mesz, and Michelle Sanchez that took the spotlight as they raced to a conference title in the 4x800-meter relay.
The 4x800 A squad crossed the line 9:24.37, besting the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics auto qualifying standard, but falling just shy of their season best, which came at the Drake Relays on April 24.
Courtney Sporrer added all-conference accolades to her personal trophy case in the 1,500-meter run, finishing second in 4:43.40, and the 5,000-meter run, placing third in 18:28.90.
Mesz and Sanchez collected individual all-conference honors in the 800-meter run, with Mesz crossing the line in fourth place in 2:18.40 and Sanchez right behind to place fifth with a time of 2:20.10.
Taylor Sporrer collected all-conference honors in the 1,500 and 5,000, placing fourth in 4:50.51 in the shorter distance, while taking seventh in 19:10.68 in the 5K.
Monica Olson was the third Mustang to make the all-conference list in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line in eighth in 5:07.92.
Morningside's success was not confined to the track, as Jacee Tindall hurled the javelin 26.17 meters to place sixth and Shelby Mills launched the discus 40.47 meters to place seventh.
The Mustangs will look to add to their national-qualifying roster at the Concordia Twilight Meet on May 10 in Seward, Nebraska.
