Mustangs just miss finals in three events at nationals

BROOKINGS, S.D. – A push to make the finals in the 1,000-meter run and a pair of relays came up just short for the Mustangs at the 2024 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women's Track and Field Championship.

In the 4x800-meter relay, the foursome of Courtney Sporrer, Emily Chicoine, Michelle Sanchez, and Jolee Mesz entered the meet with a seed time of 9:23.24. Competing in heat three of the four-heat event, the Mustangs blew their entry time out of the water, running a 9:16.04 to place ninth.

The distance medley relay team of Taylor Sporrer, Emily Chicoine, Jolee Mesz, and Courtney Sporrer suffered similar heartbreak, placing tenth as the quartet ran a 12:25.02.

Taylor Sporrer also competed individually in the 1,000-meter run prelims, placing no. 13 overall as she ran a new personal best of 3:00.55.

The Mustangs will transition to outdoor season as the weather continues to warm, competing in the Wayne State Wildcat Classic on March 28 and 29.
