Morningside shines on the track Saturday in Mitchell

MITCHELL, S.D. – Morningside took on a strong field of teams at the DWU Alumni Meet, placing fifth and winning multiple events Saturday in Mitchell.

Morningside tallied 57 points to place fifth. Dordt won the team title with 101 points.

The Sporrer sisters continued to since early in this indoor season, with Courtney Sporrer running 5:08.83 for the title in the mile and Taylor Sporrer running 5:24.47 for third. One of their distance running teammates, Jolee Mesz, won the 600-meters, running 1:39.44. Nicole Zuehl took 10th in 1:53.68. 

Emily Chicoine (second) and Monica Olson (ninth) placed inside the top 10 in the 800, running 2:23.58 and 2:34 respectively. Courtney Sporrer ran her second event of the day in the 1,000. She placed third, crossing the line in 3:07.96.

In the 3,000, London Rogge ran 11:34.01 for sixth and Gabby Ryan 12:56.34 for 10th.

In the 60-meter dash Morningside had three inside the top 10 in the prelims, with two of them making the finals. Tilda Wahlen ran 8.14 seconds for fifth and Lizzie Seus 8.18 seconds for eighth. Just missing out of the finals, Meredith Draper ran a time of 8.24 for ninth. 

In the finals race, Wahlen improved her time by .01 seconds to place fourth at 8.13. Seus climbed two spots in the finals, running 8.16. In the 200, Wahlen ran a time of 26.73 for third. Ending the day, the team of Sarah Perez, Taylor Sporrer, Olson, and Chicoine ran the 1,600-relay in 4:23.57 for fourth. The team of Laura Greene, Taylor Greene, Nicole Zuehl, and Ikilas Hasan ran 4:29.05 for sixth.

In field events, Shelby Mills placed ninth in the weight throw, heaving 13.42-meters (44-0.5). 

Morningside will head to Mount Marty for the Mount Marty Last Chance next Friday before the conference meet in the same building the week after.
