Sporrer wins 3,000-meters, Mustangs have strong showing in Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Strong marks set for the second consecutive week highlight Morningside's performance at the NAIA Preview/DII Open in Brookings Friday and Saturday.

Friday night, four Mustangs ran in the 5,000 meters. London Rogge led the group with a 12th place finish in 20:02.07. Paige Padavich ran 21:12.57, followed by Gabby Ryan at 22:31.98 and Ella Stapek at 23:00.14.

The quartet of Courtney Sporrer, Emily Chicoine, Jolee Mesz, and Courtney Sporrer got Saturday started by winning the distance medley by running 12:15.65. Jillian Fierro added a 16th place finish in a time of 6:03.23.

Courtney Sporrer won the 3,000-meters by running 10:23.37. Taylor Sporrer placed fourth in a time of 10:40.71 and a third Mustang finished inside the top 10 as London Rogge placed tenth in a time of 11:35.71.

Mesz returned to the track in the 800, running 2:20.13 for second place, behind an unattached runner. Michelle Sanchez placed fifth overall running 2:20.9. Ikilas Hasan placed 18th, running 2:40.92.

Chicoine was back on the track in the 600, running 1:41.19 for 12th place. Sarah Perez placed 14th at 1:42.95. Monica Olson ran eighth in the 1,000 in a time of 3:16.76. Fierro ran 3:33.78 for 11th.

Tilda Wahlen ran the 200 in 26.72 for 13th. Lizzie Seus placed 18th in 26.92. To end the day, the Morningside 1,600-relay team of Sanchez, Perez, Olson, and Hasan ran 4:15.85 for eighth place. 

Morningside is back in action at the DWU Alumni Meet Feb. 3.
