Three Mustangs hold top five finishes at SDSU Holiday Open

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Mustangs started the indoor track and field season against a strong field of NCAA and NAIA schools at the SDSU Holiday Open Friday and Saturday in Brookings.

Courtney Sporrer placed third in the 3,000-meters in her first race since the NAIA Cross Country Championships this fall. She finished in a time of 10:27.77. Taylor Sporrer, also running for the first time since the championships, ran 10:49.97. 

Emily Chicoine completed her first race of the season inside the top five, placing fourth in the 800-meters, running 2:26.39. Chicoine was the top runner from a school other than South Dakota State.

Meredith Draper was the top runner for the Mustangs in the 60-meters, running 8.32. Laura Greene ran 8.56 and Taylor Greene 8.59. Those three ran again in the 200, with Taylor Green taking the top spot of the three by running 27.85. Draper ran 27.98 and Laura Greene 28.06.

Shelby Mills tossed 38-9 (11.81 meters) in the weight throw. Jacee Tindall tossed 31-4.5 (9.56 meters) in the shot put.

Morningside is back in action after the winter break.
