Women's Tennis falls in GPAC championship match
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEB. – Morningside women's tennis team's season came to a close today as the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season champions were upset by no. 3 seed Concordia, 4-2.
Fortunes turned Concordia's way in doubles play, as the Bulldogs took two of the three matches. Line Jensen and Brooke Marshall collected a win in the no. 1 position, 6-2.
The Mustangs knew the pressure was on as they had to overcome the deficit in singles play. Line Jensen went straight to work in the no. 1 position, winning 6-3, 6-1, with a brief intermission as the match was moved from the Mason Family Tennis Complex to the First Serve Tennis Center due to rain.
Stefany Simplicio kept Morningside's hope alive as Concordia took a lead again, answering with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. The Bulldogs took the no. 3 match and were able to clinch the victory with a win at no. 6.
Morningside ends the season at 18-6, having played arguably one of the best seasons in program history to repeat as regular season GPAC Champions.
