Mustangs take two in Des Moines

DES MOINES, IOWA – The Mustangs picked up a pair of wins today in Des Moines, beating a shorthanded Grand View team 6-1 and sweeping Truman State 7-0.

Morningside swept doubles in the day's opener, as Line Jensen and Brooke Marshall won 6-0 and Emma Dahlhoff and Ellie Peterson won 6-2. Sophia Guntren and Lidia Suarez picked up a victory via forfeit.

In singles, Dahlhoff won the no. 6 match via forfeit, Addison Meyers won 6-0, 6-0; and Peterson won 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the match. Guntren added a 6-0, 6-0 victory and Stefany Simplicio won 6-3, 6-2 to round out Morningside's scoring.

The Mustangs' sweep of Truman State started with a Jensen-Marshall 6-1 victory. Guntren and Suarez secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win, but Bailey and Simplicio added another 6-2 victory for good measure.

Jensen kept the ball rolling for Morningside with a 6-3, 6-2 singles victory; Bailey added a 6-0, 6-3 win; and Marshall clinched for the Mustangs with a 6-2, 6-1 win.

Simplicio won her no. 4 match 6-3, 6-4; Guntren won 6-2, 6-2; and Suarez finished off the sweep 6-1, 6-2.

Morningside's varsity crew is back on the courts on Saturday competing against Sioux Falls at 6 p.m. at the First Serve Tennis Center.
