Mustangs advance to Championship Saturday with 5-0 victory

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEB. – The Mustangs punched their ticket to Saturday's Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament Championship match in a resounding fashion, collecting a 5-0 victory over Mount Marty in the semifinal round.

Morningside showed its dominance early, as Jil Hellerforth and Annika Meisel collected a 6-0 doubles victory and Emily Clotfelter and Macy McDonald picked up a 6-2 win. Line Jensen and Delfina Stuzynska were up 5-0 when play on their match was suspended.

Jensen didn't miss a beat as the teams transitioned to singles play, picking up a 6-0, 6-0 win. Meisel followed with a matching 6-0, 6-0 win at no. 4 singles, and Emily Clotfelter secured a 6-1, 6-0 victory to win the match.

Lidia Suarez was able to sneak in a 6-1, 6-0 victory before play was suspended, giving the Mustangs the 5-0 advantage. Hellerforth led 6-1, 3-3 and Stuzynska was up 6-3, 0-1 when their matches were interrupted.

Morningside will compete in the GPAC Championship match against Midland on Saturday at 11 a.m. The location for the match will be either the Mason Family Tennis Complex or the First Serve Tennis Center, depending on the weather.
