Buena Vista dual win wraps up 2021-22 fall portion
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside University surrendered only three game losses in doubles play and captured straight-set decisions in five of six singles matches Monday, Sept. 27.
Head coach Alex Struck's Mustangs, concluding the fall section of their 2021-22 schedule, rolled past visiting National Collegiate Athletic Association foe Buena Vista University 7-0 at the Mason Family Tennis Complex.
"This fall has been about stressing the importance of getting reps in," Struck said. "Over the next few months until spring rolls around if our student-athletes can continue to get work in when possible, myself and our staff feel like we will be a well-oiled machine with the competition season resumes in early February."
"We've all been impressed by what has happened in August and September," he added. "They've done a good job -- buying into the system. They just want to be better and take another step beyond what happened in 2020-21. Each student-athlete understands the big picture now and into the future."
Freshman Emma Dahlhoff (Vermillion, S.D.) was among the many belles at the ball for Mside. She turned in a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles in her first collegiate match. Sophomore Olivia Boudreau (Papillion, Neb.) and junior Aleks Sadowska (Warsaw, Poland) weren't far from matching their teammate, allowing just one game win against their BVU opponents.
"It was a great way to wind up a good fall season," Struck said. "We had some good efforts at the Great Plains Athletic Conference individual tournament earlier in the month, and then to play as we did against an NCAA Division III program gives our team confidence as we move forward."
Morningside's spring slate opens on Feb. 4 against Sterling College of Kansas.
