Morningside and College of Saint Mary tie 2-2 in women's soccer

Mustangs and Flames play to a tie in season's penultimate match

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – A matchup with women's soccer playoff implications unfolded on the turf of Elwood Olsen Stadium last night, as the College of Saint Mary Flames and Morningside's Mustangs sit on the edge of qualifying for the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament. The match ended in a 2-2 tie, following a comeback effort from the Mustangs.

College of Saint Mary took an early lead in the contest, scoring in the first ten minutes of play and doubling down to have a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Morningside came out of the locker room looking like a different team, exerting more dominance as the offense worked to create scoring opportunities.

The approach paid off, as Lily Sidel sent a ball into the box that looked like it should have set up another player to tap it in. Instead, CSM's keeper got her hands on the ball, only for it to slip through and trickle across the line and in for the score to give Morningside some momentum.

Another ten minutes elapsed and Sidel was successful in her attempt at an assist, getting a pass to Roselynn Bosman to knot things up at 2-2.

Neither team would get another ball into the net in the final fifteen minutes of play, concluding in a tie as the final horn sounded.

Sidel and Bosman each had three shots on goal in the match, on the way to the team total of 11 shots on goal.

Megan Messersmith and Isabel Ter Weeme split time in goal. Messersmith accounted for both goals in the first half, while Ter Weeme recorded a save in the second half.

Morningside concludes the regular season on Saturday, playing Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D. at 1 p.m.
