Morningside defeats Doane 3-0

Mustangs blank the Tigers

CRETE, NEB. – Morningside collected another Great Plains Athletic Conference win in women's soccer this weekend, defeating Doane University 3-0 on the Tigers' home pitch. The Mustangs advance to 2-2-1 in the conference with the win.

Morningside's fortunes turned 20 minutes into the second half, and turned quickly, when Ellie Gengler caught an assist from Roselynn Bosman to score the game's first goal and eventual game winner.

Less than a minute later, Bosman's generous play was rewarded, as she got an assist from Annemiek Goedhart and tucked it safely into the back of the net.

Brooke Brabban got the Mustangs' an insurance goal, hammering a final nail into the Tigers' coffin, as she scored with less than four minutes to play.

Bosman was Morningside's big scoring threat, recording a team-high three shots on goal. Goedhart and Brabban both followed with two. Doane's keepers faced 12 shots on goal in the contest.

Megan Messersmith was in goal for the Mustangs for the entirety of the match, recording the clean sheet with nine saves. She holds a 5-2-1 record at the halfway point of Morningside's regular season.

The Mustangs now prepare to host Concordia University on Wednesday, Oct. 5, in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
