Women's soccer suffers first setback of the season
PAPILLION, NEB. – The Mustangs suffered their first loss of the season in women's soccer action against Bellevue University. Morningside, who was 2-0 entering the contest, was set aside by a score of 2-1.
It was a contest that featured all the scoring in the first half of play, as the Bruins of Bellevue netted their first goal and the eventual game winner prior to the 30th minute. Morningside battled back, cutting into the Bruin lead as Samantha O'Roy sent a shot that skimmed under the crossbar to find the back of the net.
Morningside would fire off 10 shots on goal, but couldn't get an equalizer past the Bellevue keeper, who collected nine saves on the day. Megan Messersmith, who took the loss for the Mustangs, only faced three shots on goal in the contest.
Morningside is back in action on Sept. 8, traveling to Grand View University for a 7 p.m. contest.
