SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside College received a substantial test from visiting Dordt University as it wrapped up its 2020-21 regular season slate Saturday, March 27.
The Mustangs needed every bit of an 11-7 shots advantage and a combined 90-minute clean sheet from senior Alexandra Homan (SR/Omaha, Neb.) (Omaha, Neb.) and junior Sarah Finn (JR/Tampa, Fla.) (Orlando, Fla.) to repel the Defenders' triumph bid at Elwood Olsen Stadium. Homan, who gathered both saves, didn't end her contributions in net, either. She sent a penalty kick attempt past the reach of DU goalkeeper Elianna VanHulzen with only 37 seconds remaining in regulation to break up a scoreless tie.
Homan's third goal of the season was her first game-winning strike. She increased her career marks to nine offensive positives, of which three are game-winning goals. In net, she and Finn produced the team's ninth shutout of the season. Freshman midfielder Sina Feeser (FR/Heilbronn, Germany) (Heilbronn, Germany) led the way in shots with two of which one was on frame.
Mside opens the 2020-21 Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament hosting Midland University Saturday, April 3. Kickoff is 1 p.m. at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
